Hugh Mackay is a psychologist, social researcher and writer. He has made a life-long study of the attitudes and behaviour of the Australian community and, for the past 23 years, has been publishing his findings in the quarterly research series, The Mackay Report. He has also written four bestsellers in the field of social psychology: Reinventing Australia (1993), The Good Listener (originally published in 1994 as Why Don't People Listen?), Generations (1997) and Turning Points (1999).
He is a graduate of the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society, an honorary professor in the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Chairman of Trustees of Sydney Grammar School and a former Deputy Chairman of the Australia Council. In recognition of his pioneering work in social research, he has been awarded honorary doctorates by New South Wales, Macquarie and Charles Sturt Universities.
He has been a weekly newspaper columnist for the past nine years and is a frequent
commentator on radio and television. He is also the author of three novels:
Little Lies (1996), House Guest (1997) and The Spin (1999).
