Patricia Miller

Pat graduated from the University of Manchester, UK with an honours degree in Zoology in 1968 and a PhD in population genetics in 1972. Her research involved testing the impact of selection pressures generated by predators on rare genes in populations. The outcome of which was to demonstrate that difference persists in populations to their continued strength.

Pat came to Australia with her partner in 1973 and taught at the University of Sydney for several years before moving into administration in 1980 as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of the Registrar at that University. Since then her career has been in University administration. At Sydney she worked in most areas including Faculty Offices, Convocation, the Senate Office, the Staff Office and the Research and Scholarships Office. In 1995 Pat moved to The University of Newcastle as the Deputy Registrar and in 1999 to The Australian National University as the Director of Student Administration and Support Services.

At Newcastle Pat developed a close association with the University Chaplains by virtue of being the University Officer with whom they were aligned. That experience was enjoyable and very instructive and has provided a benchmark for the way chaplains can engage with university administration. Because of that experience Pat has an interest in fostering the relationship between chaplains the university administration and the community they both serve.
