Growing
Tertiary Chaplaincy:
A common critique of Tertiary campuses in Australia is that they are becoming like corporatised degree factories with students and staff pushed to the limit to produce quantitative outcomes to meet government, student and industry targets. This has caused various stakeholders to ask questions like:
The 2005 conference will look at the points of vulnerability in the complex worlds of university life and religious expression. We will gather together to explore these and other questions with professionals in the field of tertiary education and ministry and professional facilitators who will help us create and prioritise goals and strategies. We will also bring our own expertise and experience.
The workshops and papers offered by participants will encourage peer sharing of expertise. We are well advanced in planning a stream of workshops that will offer an experience and time to reflect on multifaith prayer and meditation.
This conference will offer religious professionals in tertiary education a way to engage seriously as well as lightly in the challenges facing staff and students in our institutions.
This conference is open
to all people offering religious services on campus which their institutions
understand as chaplaincy, no matter what religion they practise. Every effort
will be made to include and respect members of religious groups who are only
represented by small numbers of participants.
