Conference Update

We arrived at the venue of Santa Teresa to be greeted, not only by the Conference Committee, but to the water, the scenery and the breezes.

DAY 1 – Monday

We had the great joy of welcoming 2 new chaplains to the Conference this year, with another 2 joining us on Tuesday.  Aunty Joan Hendricks welcomed us to country we gathered upon with a water blessing and then Jay presented her President’s address.  A copy of this can be viewed/downloaded President’s Address TCMA Conference 2011.

Aunty Joan was our keynote speaker for the Monday night sharing with her story and experiences. Our evening was completed with a reflection on water from Patricia Blanks before most of us fell into bed having had a very full and long day.

DAY 2 – Tuesday

Our day begun with a labyrinth and reflection space prepared by Robert Lingard.  Associate Professor Nerida Blair was our keynote speaker this morning concentrating on the importance of story and the value that story has in our lives.

The afternoon brought on workshops with Father Geoff Harvey sharing his experiences with “Christian Awareness Week”.  Here is the link to the material that Father Geoff presented.

Arto Avakian shared his research and thoughts on the theme of “The High Court and Chaplaincy”.

Patricia Blundell led us on a journey to find out just how much we actually know about the multi-faith communities that we work in, under the title of “Gaining Literacy for a multi-faith world”.

Roy Hazlewood shared his work on “You are a chaplain at a higher education institution:  So what and where to from here?”

Our AGM (part 1) was the close of our afternoon with a number of reports and items covered.  Here are copies of the reports presented.
  • TCMA Financial Statement 2011
  • Executive Report

We also held elections for the Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Member.  We are pleased to announce that Fr Bavin Clarke was elected as Vice President, Mrs Patricia Blanks was elected as Secretary, Rev Roy Hazlewood was elected as Treasurer, and Mr Robert Lingard as Executive Member.  These positions are for a 2 year term.

Our AGM was then postponed until Thursday to continue with the business required.

This evening we headed out to enjoy some cafe conversations which led different cafes and restaurants to share our evening meal with each other.
